Year 11 Leadership Team
At the end of year 10, we offer the opportunity to our students to become part of the Leadership Team. This includes the role of head and deputy head students. This role is very important as these students will represent the entire cohort here at Cansfield High School. Students will have to apply and complete an interview to ensure they are the best student for the role. This role will have many duties such as monitoring the prefects, speaking at events and assemblies and supporting all other student leaders across school.
Leadership team will also support visitors in school who require a tour to help provide a brief overview of the facilities and curriculum we offer at Cansfield High School.
Year 11 Prefects
Year 11 students are given the opportunity to apply and become a prefect. This is an opportunity for students who have been awarded Pride of Cansfield. This role will give the students a chance to support the running of the school day and upcoming events as they will be assigned a given duty. Here at Cansfield High School, we take the mental health of our students very seriously. We have many staff as qualified mental health first aiders however we now have the opportunity for our students to become student mental health first aiders and bullying ambassadors. These select few students will be able to offer and deliver support in small groups or 1 : 1 to ensure key students. They will also be able to host lunch time sessions to create a safe space for all.
Peer and Learning Support (PALS)
At the end of year 8, we offer the opportunity to our students to become part of PALS for when they move into year 9. This role is very important as it provides the students a chance to be a leader and offer support to other learners and visitors within our school in many different events.
Our PALS will offer transitional support for our Year 7 cohorts in the first term of school. This includes providing forms with a tour of the school and collecting students after lesson and escorting the forms to and from their classes/lunch time. They will continue to offer support throughout the year to their given year 7 form.
PALS support in the delivery of our summer school to help showcase what each faculty has to offer to future Cansfield Students.
Student Parliament
At Cansfield High School we care about what our students think and take time to listen to their views. We believe that students flourish when given the opportunity to lead and to act as role models to their peers. Student Parliament gives students at Cansfield the opportunity to feedback their views and opinions on their school community. It encourages students to have their say about the things that matter to them. It is also a great way for students to develop skills that will benefit them throughout school and into the workplace.
Student Parliament at Cansfield is designed to align with the legislative process of the UK in order to educate our young people on democratic processes, creating politically literate pupils who are ready to become members active members electorate at age 18. When selecting our students for student parliament we give everyone a chance to apply for the role. This allows students to emphasis their strengths and understand the importance of their role. Each form group will work as a constituency and will democratically vote for two Members of Parliament. The students are given their categories in which they will have a sole focus and be assigned to a member of the senior leadership team. This will ensure there is two per year group in each category.
Two year 10 students from each group will then conclude their findings and meet with the head of student leadership to discuss their findings. This will then feed into the Head Teachers Panel to discuss the changes to be made.
