CURRICULUM

Duke of Edinburgh

Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a nationally recognized award demonstrating a young person’s reliability, resilience, leadership and confidence. It allows them to become a part of their local community through the volunteering section, and improve their physical well-being.

The award helps students in the future with college or apprenticeship applications, as employers really value the skills that are gained by taking part in the DofE.

There is no criteria to apply to be on the award scheme, only that the students are in Year 9. The award scheme runs all year, and recruitment begins at the end of Year 8, with the award scheme starting properly in September of Year 9. It will take a full academic year to complete all elements of the award which finishes with an expedition in June each year.

We run a number of different activities within school that provide opportunities for students to be involved with such as gardening club and photography, as well as geography skills. Many of the students choose to complete the sections outside of school, which greatly benefits the local community. In the past this has included training younger children in sports, helping out at charity shops, food banks and local churches. This puts Cansfield students into the community in a very positive light and helps to spread the message of our core values.
