If you could provide a current Y11 student some advice, what would it be?
‘Selecting your next pathway does not mean that you have to follow that same path for the rest of your life. Choose now what you think you will enjoy and succeed in. Enjoyment is the greatest factor when choosing your “for-now” path. If your enjoyment changes, so can your path.’
If you could provide a Y7 student some advice, what would it be?
‘Enjoy your time at school, get involved with extra-curricular activity, go on the trips, be friends with a diverse group of people… don’t be a follower and forge your own path. School can be the best time of your life, if you make the most of it.’

If you could provide a current Y11 student some advice, what would it be?
‘Year 11 can be challenging for anyone and it also brings with it, a lot of pressure. But, as someone who has walked in your footsteps and made it though, I want to emphasise just how important it is to make the most of the time you have left and even more importantly, remember to take care yourself. And, please don’t base your entire worth on the numbers. I let myself get so wrapped up in the grades that I lost sight of just allowing myself to be. Of course, they are important, but working hard doesn’t have to mean destroying yourself in the process. It sounds cliche, but all you can do is your best and it’s ok if you don’t know exactly what you want to do right now. There’s always time and whatever you decide on, trust that you will get there.’
If you could provide a Y7 student some advice, what would it be?
‘Be patient with yourself! The transition from primary to secondary school can be overwhelming and daunting at times. But, if you give yourself time, you will settle in and find your place, and your people. You won’t be alone in how you’re feeling and trust me when I say, you’re not expected to know everything straight away. You will be ok!’
Would you recommend Cansfield High School? Why?
What sets Cansfield apart from other schools is how supportive and caring the staff and the learning environment are. If you’re struggling, they are always willing to take the time to listen and offer guidance. They also want to succeed and will support you every step of the way. I would definitely recommend Cansfield High School.

‘Your GCSEs don’t determine your whole career. You don’t have to know what you are going to do for the rest of your life. You don’t need to one thing, you can have many different jobs and be successful. It’s okay to change or pivot when a job or place is not serving you. I am 35 and pivoting my career to suit my family and lifestyle needs and for something more rewarding and challenging.’
