The Jack Case Cup, named in honour of local sporting figure Jack Case, is one of the highlights of the Ashton-in-Makerfield sporting calendar. The event saw Primary School teams from across the area competing in small sided football games. Each team represented their school with pride, aiming not only to win but to demonstrate teamwork, resilience, and fair play.
The atmosphere was electric as students cheered on their peers from the sidelines. Parents and staff also came along to support, making it a true community celebration.
PE teacher Mr Bell praised the students’ efforts: “The Jack Case Cup is about more than just winning. It’s about coming together as a community. Every student who took part should be very proud.”
This year’s competition was closely fought, with each match filled with energy and excitement. After a thrilling final round, St Wilfred’s emerged as overall champions over RL Hughes, lifting the Jack Case Cup to loud applause.
The event ended with a special presentation, where medals were awarded not only to the winners but also to students who showed outstanding sportsmanship and effort throughout the day.
Assistant Headteacher Mr Dobinson, who played in the competition in 2007 added: “It’s fantastic to see our young people challenging themselves, supporting each other, and building memories they’ll carry with them. Well done to all Primary Schools who took part. We look forward to welcoming you back in Summer 2026”
