Cashless Catering System

We will shortly be implementing a new student recognition system using biometrics which will greatly improve the efficiency of the catering service we offer. This involves recording the finger prints of staff and students, which will be linked to the canteen till system and the Worldpay system, enabling them to pay for their food and drink quickly by scanning their prints at the point of sale.

This is a technology that is already used successfully by thousands of schools and we are convinced that this is the way forward for Cansfield High School.

A cashless canteen service has a number of benefits to our school community, including:

•    Allows a faster speed of service through the canteen
•    Keeps Free School Meals anonymous
•    Eliminates the loss of dinner money or cards
•    Ensures that dinner money is spent on its intended use
•    Will provide parents with information as to what their child has eaten
•    A trusted secure solution that is simple and easy to use.

Biometrics and Security

Students, parents and staff can rest assured that the fingerprint images cannot be used by any other source for identification purposes. The system uses an image of the finger to create a mathematical algorithm and then discards the finger image; only the numbers remain and these cannot be reinterpreted back into a finger image.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a cashless system?

A Cashless Catering System is a solution which is purpose designed to meet the ever evolving needs and demands of the catering provision, required by today’s schools. The cashless solution allows schools to be better able to provide their students and staff with a faster, more efficient and more appealing meal service.

Why do you need to take my child’s finger image?

By taking an image of your child’s finger we can turn this information into a digital signature.

Can finger images be used by any other agency?

No, the software we use turns your child’s finger image in to a mathematical algorithm. The image of the finger is then discarded. The information that is stored cannot be used to recreate an image of the child’s finger.

What happens when my child leaves the school?

When a student leaves school all data can be deleted very easily.

How does it work?

When the child places his/her finger on the scanner, the software matches their finger   image with the unique digital signature held in the database.

Is there any alternative for pupils who are unable to provide biometric data for some reason?

Alternative identification methods are available for pupils unable to provide biometric data.  Pupils can opt to use a different method.
