MATHEMATICS GCSE COURSE DETAILS: The GCSE offered in two tiers of entry: Higher – grades A* to D Foundation – grades C to G is made up of five modules. Modules 1 and 3 can be taken in November, March or June in Year 10 or Year 11, Module 5 is the final examination which is taken in June of Year 11. The modules are as follows: Module One: 18% of the final grade deals with handling data Data Collection Averages – mean, median, mode Spread – range, inter-quartile range Statistical diagrams – pie charts, bar charts, scattergraphs, stem and leaf diagrams, etc. Module Three: 27% of the final grade deals with Number and some Algebra Fractions Decimals Percentages Ratio Standard Index Form Index Notation Graphs etc. Module Five: 55% of the final grade deals with Shape, Space, Measurement and Algebra Equations Simplifying expressions Circles Perimeter, area, volume etc.
Module Four: The Young Person in Society There is no coursework – instead questions will be set in the exams that require students to choose which mathematics to use and apply it to solve problems.
