COURSE DETAILS:

COURSE TITLE: SPECIFICATION B HISTORY (MODERN WORLD)

This course complements and builds on "The 20th Century World" which we study in Year 9. We will look at some issues in more depth and also cover new areas.

The main areas of study are:

  1. Conflict in the Modern World: International and British History
    This consists of a study of the two World Wars, a detailed study of Britain during the Wars and the development of the Cold War. This is tested on Paper One of the examination.
  2. Governments in action in the first half of the Nineteenth Century
    This includes a study of issues such as the rise to power of Hitler in Germany; the Ku Klux Klan and gangster era in the USA. This is tested on Paper Two of the examination.
  3. Britain and the Second World War and the Vietman War
    These two topics are studied in depth and are tested through coursework

What you will need to do:

There will be opportunities for a range of varied activities - group work, discussion, individual research, source work and extended writing (which is always guided).

The course aims to help students understand the world around them and to develop a wide range of skills and a way of working that will be very useful in later life.

There are 2 examination papers plus a coursework element.

Paper 1 - 37.5%: Conflict in the Modern World
Paper 2 - 37.5%: Governments in Action
Coursework - 25%:
