CHILD DEVELOPMENT GCSE

COURSE DETAILS:

This course is a study of the development of babies and children from pre-conception to 5 years of age. It includes practical experience in local nurseries/play groups, and an assessment of a chosen baby/child under 5 years of age.

The 3 main areas of the course to be studied are:

  1. The Family.
  2. Care of the Child
  3. Development of the Child

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO:

You will be assessed in 2 ways:-

  1. Written Exam: - 50% of final mark
    There is a Higher and Foundation paper. Your teacher will discuss with you during the course what is the most appropriate paper for you.
  2. Coursework (Child Study): - 50% of final mark
    You will produce an in-depth study of a child. This will require research, investigation and observational visits made over a minimum of six months.

To complete this coursework it is beneficial if you already have in mind a child you could study. The child should be under the age of 5 and one that you can visit on a regular basis.
