Cansfield’s First African Adventure – Team Uganda 2017

Cansfield’s First African Adventure – Team Uganda 2017

Meet the Team: Deon Tagg, Amy Jones, Ellie Rafrey, Rhea Ashworth, Tegan Bramhall, and Emily Joseph –Hughes with Miss Fleming and Mr Beaney as Team Leaders.

Through World Challenge, 6 of our Year 9 and Year 10 students have signed up for an 18-month programme to take part in a 2-week educational expedition to Africa, which will involve trekking through Uganda and working on a community project. The community project will involve teaching alongside the local people and renovating a local school by helping install toilet facilities to encourage more children to attend school to further their education.

This opportunity is a challenging expedition that will not only significantly benefit the local community but also teach our team valuable life skills such as leadership, communication and team work.

The team have the task of raising £2,600 each through fundraising to cover all the costs for the expedition. In order to raise the funds they have organised several events as a team, which include a school variety show, hot drink breaks and a Valentine’s Day card postal system. As well as this, each member of the team have been individually raising funds by making and selling arts and crafts goods, party bags and setting up enterprise activities such as printing services.
